Sonobuoy Supremacy in Submarine Detection

With a complete range of buoys to meet current requirements, and capability to adapt those or develop new solutions for specialised requirements, Ultra is a pioneer in a market that demands technical competence across a very broad spectrum; skills that have served us well elsewhere.

All our buoys have fully selectable, 99-channel transmitters, for either internal carriage and gravity launch, or external carriage and release from a sonobuoy launch container.

Some have remote control via an RF downlink, while others feature integrated GPS. Emerging technologies now allow us to exploit significant improvements in RF dynamic range through a new digital transmission standard, a key benefit for Multi-Static Active (MSA) search and localisation systems.

Ultra's bathythermal buoys, measuring temperature with depth, are compatible with all acoustic processors and sonobuoy receivers. Passive sonobuoys include omni-directional and anchored LOFAR buoys, directional HIDAR and DIFAR buoys, Vertical Line Array DIFAR (VLAD) buoys and the SSQ- 981E Barra planar array.

CAMBS and DICASS monostatic active localisation buoys continue to evolve, and provide technology that is at the core of our latest MSA projector buoys. The SSQ 926 ALFEA buoy is the world's most powerful, A-Size electro-acoustic projector and operates as a matched pair with the SSQ-981E. Being developed in conjunction with General Dynamics Canada, MSA matches high performance, digital, active and passive sonobuoys with upgrades to the AQS-970 series acoustic processors to deliver a full search localisation and attack capability for the Nimrod MR2 and MRA4. The system is completed with sonobuoy telemetry receivers and sonobuoy positioning systems.
