“Ultra undertake the design, manufacture and support for defence systems both as a Prime Contractor and as a Sub Contractor.”

Major Programme Delivery Performance

Ultra Electronics has a proven and successful track record in Prime Contract and Systems Integration. Example programmes are the UK Sonar 2170 Surface Ship Torpedo Defence (SSTD) Prime Contract for the Royal Navy and the Replacement Acoustic Processor programme (RAP) for the Nimrod MR2. In both instances our innovative approach, both technical and commercial, were instrumental in providing our customers with early and enhanced capability whilst providing additional assets within the budget.

The SSTD system went into service on-time within the MoD's 50% confidence ISD, an anchor milestone. The programme was achieved with the co-corporation of a team of 13 international multidisciplinary subcontractors, with the Prime Contact Management Office based at Ultra. The RAP programme is yet another example of where Ultra have teamed and managed specialist organisations to provide customers with a "turn key" solution which in this case included, not only the avionics equipment, but the installation kits which we then subcontracted to BAE Systems, Chadderton to install.

“Given the size and diversity of its programmes Ultra has an excellent record of timely delivery of compliant systems delivered on time, to cost and performance.”

Ultra receives major customer delivery performance feedback regularly and strives to improve and build upon its relationships with customers at all times. For example the MoD Supplier Relations Group (SRG).

Security and Crypto Approvals

Ultra's crypto expertise dates back to the 1950s with the introduction of our BID 160. We are fully conversant with the TEMPEST accreditation in accordance with all national and NATO standards. We have numerous years of TEMPEST design experience and appropriate staff attend formal training courses in TEMPEST design and installation at CESG Cheltenham premises.

Quality Management System

Ultra have an ISO 9001 Quality Management System. We apply quality regulations strictly with the aim of improving our Quality Management and, to meet this commitment, annual process reviews are conducted in accordance with company procedures. As a result of performing a large number of contracts over the last 40 years we has a detailed understanding of Defence and Quality standards and are also entirely familiar with US Military documents and STANAGs.

Ultra is fully conversant with and has complied with related standards adopted by NATO that ensure interoperability between NATO and coalition forces. These standards include both STANAGs,and Mil Standards. Ultra is approved under the Design Approval Organisation Scheme (DAOS) and DEF-STAN 05-123 to sign F100As, Declarations for Design Performance. This is a prerequisite for any Airborne Platform gaining Airworthiness Approval for both Civil and Military platforms. We are also familiar with JSP 55X Military Airworthiness Document set which specifically provides guidance for Military aircraft Release For some projects it is Ultra's policy to establish an Integrated Test, Evaluation and Acceptance (ITEA) process as early as practical in the programme.

Manufacturing

The production facility at Greenford was initially set up to ensure high reliability workmanship as required by MIL-STD-2000. These guidelines have now been absorbed into our manufacturing procedures to ensure highly effective and efficient processes coupled with high reliability. With a total manufacturing area of approximately 2,700 m². this also houses Ultra's surface mount assembly area, where printed circuit board assemblies can be produced in-house.

Production test facilities are co-located within the manufacturing facility apart from the environmental test facility which is isolated from the shop floor in a restricted access area.
